Two wounded in playground shooting

Two men were critically wounded in a shooting at Lower Mayfair Playground on Friday night.

The gunfire erupted at 9:05 p.m. near a roller hockey rink at the playground, which is on the 3000 block of Levick St. adjacent to the Ethan Allen School. Police arrived to find a 20-year-old lying on the ground with a single wound of the left chest. An officer took him to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. Officers also recovered a revolver at the scene.

A short time later, the second victim, 21, showed up at Nazareth Hospital in a private vehicle with critical wounds of the abdomen and both thighs. He was transferred by helicopter to Temple.

Police did not release the names of the victims. A police supervisor at the scene reportedly said that witnesses described a fight that precipitated the shooting. An underlying motive is not known. ••
